--Experimentation-- [pre-deadline devlog]
Hi, hi! It's Monarch again. These are my thoughts on Evening Render as of now.
First of all, thanks a lot to Rieux for taking time out of his week to draw the art for the game. It looks great and we would not be CLOSE to finishing without him pulling his weight. You're a real one, Rieux. I can NOT draw as fast as Rieux does, and not in the slightest can even colour as fast as him. How does he do it so well? Haha.
Second, Rockii returns from Morning Starter to compose absolutely amazing music once again. I'm not sure how he can consistently pull off bangers over and over, but I ain't questioning it.
Third... my own sanity. Eh? Hah... I'll say it straight.
Evening Render is an experimental game. The main thing I experimented with is visuals, UI, juice and overall game feel. Inbound Shovel played my game on stream yesterday and many of the chat called it RNG the game, which is probably an apt descriptor of the game. The actual gameplay itself is very lacking, the defensive die mechanic is completely unexplained, and three of the dice don't have proper effects. Yikes, eh? Morning Starter fans might be disappointed with what I cooked here.
Either way, I'm happy with what I have. My aim this jam was to make a game that had more visual appeal than gameplay appeal, and I think I did that well.
I'm going to use that experience while building the expanded version of Morning Starter. Thank you for listening to my thoughts and reading this post.
ps. Evening Render and Morning Starter are NOT set in the same universe. The sun is not dead. I thought the name was cool, that's exactly it.

if you were actually interested in my game or my art/future prospects, or wanted to report more bugs that I have not caught yet.
